Editorial independence
BestMatchmakers.co is editorially independent. No matchmaking service pays for placement, and no service has editorial input into its ranking position. Revenue from this site comes from affiliate relationships, which are disclosed where applicable. Affiliate status does not influence rank, score, or editorial commentary.
What we measure, and how
Rankings are determined by the BM Score, which starts from the Platform Review Score and adjusts it for review volume and reliability. The remaining criteria are documented for every service so readers can compare what matters most to them: contract structure, pricing transparency, free consultation availability, and operating history.
Platform Review Score
We use each service's publicly available rating from a single review platform, whichever platform has the most reviews for that service. For most services, this is Google. For some, it is Trustpilot or Yelp. Using one platform per service keeps comparisons clean and verifiable: any reader can check the score themselves.
We do not combine scores across platforms. A service with a 4.5 on Google and a 2.0 on Yelp is scored at its Google rating if Google has more reviews. The other platforms are not hidden. They may be noted in the service description, but the ranking is built on the single most statistically robust data point.
The BM Score
Each service's final ranking is determined by its BM Score. The BM Score starts from the Platform Review Score, then adjusts it for the volume and reliability of the underlying reviews. A rating built on hundreds of reviews is more dependable than one built on a handful: a single outlier review can move a small sample noticeably, while barely affecting a large one. So a strong rating backed by a large, verified review base carries more weight than an identical rating backed by very few reviews.
The Platform Review Score is the single most heavily weighted factor. Review volume and reliability is the second factor. When two services finish with the same BM Score, the one with more reviews ranks higher.
The BM Score is this directory's own metric. It is not a rating from any review platform. The underlying Platform Review Score is always shown alongside it and can be verified directly on Google, Trustpilot, or Yelp.
Review Volume & Reliability
A 5 out of 5 based on 8 reviews tells a different story than a 4 out of 5 based on 400. More reviews mean more data points, which means the score is less likely to be skewed by a handful of unusually positive or negative experiences.
We apply a reliability adjustment: services with more reviews receive a higher confidence weight in the ranking. This means a service with a lower score but significantly more reviews may outrank a service with a higher score but limited data.
Services with fewer than 100 publicly available reviews across all major platforms are flagged as data-limited. Below this threshold, a single outlier review can shift a score by 0.3 stars or more, making direct comparison with higher-volume services less reliable. Data-limited services are still ranked, but the flag is visible to readers.
Contract Flexibility
Most premium matchmaking services require commitments of six months to three years. We evaluate the length and structure of the commitment required. Short-term options (monthly or quarterly) score higher than multi-year retainers because the financial risk to the consumer is meaningfully different. This factor can move a service up or down by one position.
Pricing Transparency
Whether the service publishes its pricing publicly, such as ranges, starting figures, or package costs, versus requiring a consultation before disclosing any numbers. Transparent pricing scores higher.
Free Consultation
Whether the service offers a no-cost initial conversation before any financial commitment. This is a baseline industry standard. Its absence is noted.
Years in Business
Operating history and demonstrated continuity. We note founding year and any significant ownership changes. Long history with poor reviews does not outrank short history with strong reviews.
How the final ranking works
The BM Score determines the ranking order. When two services tie, the one with more reviews ranks higher.
The same method is applied identically across every city page. Rankings are reviewed and updated quarterly.
What this ranking does not measure
This directory does not evaluate match quality, success rates, or subjective client satisfaction beyond what is captured in publicly available reviews. We do not conduct undercover evaluations. We do not accept self-reported metrics from services. The ranking reflects publicly verifiable data only.
When this is updated
Review data is pulled from each service's highest-volume platform at the time of each quarterly update. Pricing and service details are verified against each service's published materials. Last updated: July 2026.
